What an Inspiring Video!

I just had to post this on the site. I do believe this guy is creating art on the bike. Freeriding is something I’ve been getting more and more interested in.

What do you think – Think a 43 year old man can do this to?

22 Miles on the New Seat – Ouch!

Well, new seats are like new shoes, it seems like you always have to make minor adjustments in order to get back to your initial feeling of comfort. The seat overall is a really good feeling seat on my first ride. I realized that I need to slightly offset the seat due to my pelvis being a little off. I had a parachute incident a few years back that changed my alignment and that’s why, when you look at my seats on my bikes, my seat nose is positioned to the left.

The one complaint I have right now is this clanging sound coming from the bottom of the seat. I found out that the emblem Fi’zi:k is loose and so I removed it from the bike. So you won’t be seeing the emblem when I pass you on the road! :-)

The seat does sit lower than my old seat, so I had to stop on the road and adjust the seat up about 6mm. That put me back into my normal position on the bike. How do I know – Well, I’ve been riding the same position on the bike for about 5 years now and have come to know the feel.

One of the improvements over my old seat was the feel of my legs position on the bike. I didn’t have as wide of a stance on the bike. I could bring my knees in a little closer without feeling uncomfortable. I noticed that this little bit of an improvement helped me gain a two minute advantage over my normal 10 mile test. I did nothing different during the ride to make this number change.

I kept the same gear, cadence and track for this test ride on the new seat. In fact, I wasn’t planning on checking this out on this particular ride. I discovered it when I was at the 10 mile mark and marking the time on my Polar. It made the rest of the ride really good. I caught up with some really skinny riders on the ride and just blew by them. I wonder what it feels like for a skinny guy to get popped by a bigger rider?

Not that I’m fat mind you – just a bigger muscled guy from the normal road cyclist. Of course, being 43 and enjoying dark beer, I’ve created a little added belly weight as well. That will be off by mid June! Anyway, back to the seat…

The Fi’zi:k is a really nice saddle and I would highly recommend it to those of you looking to upgrade or get another seat. I’m leaving for Brazil, so won’t be able to ride my bike for a while. That’s okay though – I’m going to Rio!!!

Crank’s not so cranky today!

Riding Roadie’s and dirt bums! Is there anything better?

New Bicycle saddles – New Bicycle Tires – Time To Ride

Today marked the day it was time to buy myself a new rear tire and a new sleeker bicycle saddle. Here is the picture of the saddle:

I have yet to sit on the saddle, but I did match it up with the three year old saddle that came with the bike. It definitely looks like it will cure the problem I’ve been having recently. My saddle sores have been increasingly causing me pain. I’ve narrowed it down to the width of the current seat. Another issue I was having with the old saddle was that it was making a crackling noise whenever I put a lot of force to the cranks while seated. Not Cool!

Tomorrow, I will ride in the morning and let you know how well this new bicycle saddle has performed or not performed. It sure looks good though and the blue stripe really matches up with the paint on the bike. I will give you the full report. Oh, I forgot to mention that the seat also came with matching handlebar tape. I won’t be using the tape until we get settled in to our new home in Washington State. Here is what most other riders around me will see:

The tire was needed due to the fact that I have used the old tire to much on the trainer. I will carry the new tire with me until the old tire basically falls off. I don’t want and will not buy new equipment unless I really need it. By the way, the old seat is not just going in the garbage. I will be using it on the Mountain bike when we get to Washington.

Even though it creaks a little, I think I can adjust it enough on the mountain bike to stop the creaking. Here is the latest tire I bought and will now carry with me:

I will let you know how the ride goes tomorrow. I’m sure I will have something to talk about with all these crazy assholes on the road around this area. It seems like everyone is in such a hurry to get nowhere! Bicycle Saddles over a comfy cushioned car seat any day!
